Grayson Archer Chesterfields
In today’s hectic world, there is one place where you should always be able to find an oasis, that place we often take for granted when you’ve had a stressful day at work. This oasis is your home and should be a place where you can relax, unwind and enjoy time with your family.
The classic Chesterfield sofa has been considered the world’s most comfortable sofa for hundreds of years and is a timeless icon of home decor with its tailored leather tufting, deeply recessed buttons within folded diamonds and thick pleated rolled arms. The arms are even along the length and depth of the sofa and the cushions of a finely crafted genuine leather chesterfield have no equal.
Grayson Archer has spared no expense in our pursuit to be the pinnacle of quality, durability and chic styling that blends in seamlessly with many other styles of home decor from antique to modern. We believe your living room should be a comfortable, luxurious space to curl up and read a book or watch your favorite Television series in pure comfort.
Our company is a 53 year old antique dealership dealing with the finest original Chesterfields and we know what’s available and what good quality construction and design is. Now we are using our knowledge of fine antiques to go above and beyond the original designs with added touches and available options.
Our Buffalo Leather
Chesterfields are crafted exclusively from top-grain buffalo hide, chosen for its naturally rugged, masculine character. Unlike cowhide, buffalo leather isn’t stretched during the tanning process, which keeps the grain tight, thick, and distinctly textured. It’s tougher to work with, but the result is a hide that feels stronger, more substantial, and built for real life—not delicate or overly soft like typical upholstery leathers. It is reminiscent of Indiana Jone’s jacket and tougher and has a more masculine texture than traditional cowhide. Many furniture brands buy leather that is already dyed and finished at the tannery. We don’t. We source our hides raw and “naked,” then hand-dye and finish them ourselves. This is full-grain dyed so the color will be the same on the back and if scratched will not show as easily as top-dyed leather which is dyed only on the front surface. This allows us to create deeper tones, richer color variations, and a more authentic, lived-in aesthetic that only buffalo hide can deliver. It appears almost antique in character. Because buffalo leather is thicker and more muscular in feel, we apply a thin, diluted protective topcoat—just enough to help guard against daily scratches and stains, but not so heavy that it blocks conditioners from soaking in. Buffalo leather needs nourishment to stay flexible, so when you condition it at home, take your time and let it fully absorb. Proper care helps the hide stay supple while preserving its rugged look. We recommend conditioning with Leather Honey which is readily available on Amazon twice a year to prevent cracking and maintain color. Our Furniture Frames
Every Chesterfield frame is built from solid mango wood, a dense hardwood comparable to oak. With reinforced corner blocks and heavy cross-bracing, our frames are intentionally over-engineered for strength. In fact, our 95″ sofa comfortably supported 6 grown men in testing—proof of how solid these pieces really are. We don’t use removable legs because they compromise stability. Instead, the legs are integrated directly into the frame, becoming part of the support system itself. This design also ensures that at about 30″ tall, each piece can still fit through most doorways when turned on its side. Still, we recommend measuring your home’s doorways and hallways—especially in older homes—to avoid delivery issues. If the sofa doesn’t fit it isn’t returnable. You must measure to make sure. Full measurements and diagrams are provided later on this page. Our Suspension System
For support that lasts, we use polypropylene webbing, the same type of durable, low-stretch material used in automotive seat belts. It keeps your cushions supported, prevents sagging, and won’t rot or loosen like jute webbing. It’s also silent—no squeaks like older spring systems—and far easier to repair if anything ever needs attention. If we used springs that would add considerably to the cost and when a spring pops, which they will eventually do, you’ll have to take it to an upholstery shop for repair which is a big ordeal. This is not so with webbing which will last 50-75 years with no maintenance or attention..Our Cushions
We design our cushions to match the strength of our frames and leather. They’re made from high-density foam, giving them a firmer, more structured feel that complements the bold, masculine nature of buffalo hide. Because the cushions have zippers, this foam can always be easily changed at an upholstery shop very inexpensively at any time, however we believe this is the best choice because if you start too soft it will flatten quickly with regular use.
